Ballistic Refuges, Safe Rooms & Containers

Blast and Ballistics Limited are able to manufacture ballistic refuge containers for customers who need to be able to quickly and easily deploy secure buildings to both remote access sites and also within commercial premises.

The Oil and Gas Industry have procured these units and have deployed them to remote areas within their field of operations for workers to take refuge if ever required. They are fitted with climate control and the internals of the units are finished to a very high level which then also serve as secure office space or clean storage areas.

These bullet refuge containers, as they are sometimes known, are available in a range of sizes and internal fit outs giving the customer a wide choice of options. They are available with or without windows and blend into any commercial environment appearing to be no more than a conventional shipping container.

They can be deployed into office car park areas to provide a ballistic refuge for workers and again appear nothing more than a storage container.

Adding several modified units together than can then serve a multitude of uses and can be used as portable scanning rooms, firing ranges, offices, guard rooms and ATM machines to name but a few.

They can be over clad with other materials and also built into buildings to provide Safe Havens, Safe Rooms and Ballistic Shelters.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a ballistic container?

A ballistic container is a standard ISO-style container that has been upgraded with ballistic armour to protect people or equipment from gunfire and fragment threats. The walls, doors and viewing panels are lined with steel or GRP ballistic materials, turning a regular container into a secure refuge or protected workspace.

  • What are ballistic containers used for?

Ballistic containers are commonly used as refuge units, guard posts, control rooms, workshops and equipment housings on high-risk sites. They’re ideal for oil and gas facilities, defence compounds, remote camps and critical infrastructure, where personnel need immediate protected space during an incident.

  • What ballistic levels can your containers achieve?

Our ballistic containers can be designed to meet EN 1522/1523 FB4–FB7 and equivalent NIJ levels, depending on your threat profile. That means we can build units to resist handgun and rifle fire, including rounds from 7.62mm assault rifles, while preventing dangerous spall on the safe side.

  • Can ballistic containers be moved once installed?

Yes. One of the main advantages of ballistic containers is that they are fully relocatable. Units are supplied with standard ISO corner castings and lifting points, so they can be moved by crane, truck or ship as your site layout or project requirements change.

  • What sizes do ballistic containers come in?

Most projects use 20ft or 40ft ISO containers, but we can also provide bespoke sizes or combine multiple units to create larger secure areas. Internal layouts can include offices, control rooms, sleeping areas, storage or plant rooms, all within the armoured envelope.
